Anyone can put me down,
Still, no one will see me frown.
Bitterness will not affect me,
Sweetness will always attract me.

Finally, I am conquering the feat
Of making the world’s most beastly sandwich seen
Poisonous if you do eat
Enough to make one’s mouth go scream
In the Shadows of Laughter
This poem has been composed by 11-year-old Aditya Shukla from Hyderabad and was chosen by the Jury for the ‘Best Poem of the Year’ award at the BTB Wordsmiths of the Year Awards 2023.
I grew up
Overshadowed by laughter,
Where the books spoke wisdom.
A Trendsetter: Modern Juliet
I was sure my face
looked greener than green.
He looked down upon me,
I was sure he thought,
“Thou look like a rat catcher.”
God, why did I tend to embarrass myself?
The Propagators of Knowledge
A teacher is our mentor
To her, children are front and centre
Full of compassion and hope
Assures us that we all have scope,
Looks at us with eyes full of adore.
The Gurus For Life
Not all teachers are found in schools,
I am highly obliged for all I have learned from you!
The knowledge you gave me is forever a jewel,
I owe you something as great too!
Silent Footsteps
The silent footsteps you left
Metamorphized into a theft
Of my beating strength
The distance and the length
My Prayer For My Loved Ones
O’ Dear God, I pray for everyone who make me happy or glad.
And that they never frown, be it my mom and dad.
I pray that they have a long life and good health,
There should be no loss, be it happiness or wealth.
Dearest Mommy – Bound by heART
‘Bound by heART’ is an initiative of BTB in collaboration with SOS Children’s Villages of India to spread joy and love through the medium of art and creativity. The organization has been doing excellent work with children and we feel privileged to be able to do our small bit towards their fantastic endeavour. SOS Children’s Villages of India has been ensuring not just childcare, but also wholesome child development for parentless and vulnerable children since more than five decades, reaching out to currently more than 30,000 children. Come, make a difference.
Be a changemaker. Support here: https://www.soschildrensvillages.in/
As a part of this endeavour, we conducted the Bound by heART Mother’s Day contest which is a beautiful coming together of the visual and literary art forms. Talented kids from SOSCVI give us a vision and the writers at BTB decorate it with their magical words.
A Plant Like Mother
I am like a rose carefully raised by you,
But unlike it, I am lifelong fresh, and it’s all because of you.
You make sure my petals are blooming red,
You make sure the ground is soft and comfy as a royal bed.
