Book name – Spellbound! Author – Nalini Sorensen Publisher – Scholastic India
“Spellbound!” is a unique and delightful book by renowned author Nalini Sorensen with a contemporary and refreshing take on the classic tale of “Princess and the Frog”. When I was growing up, my father’s books were a constant source of fascination and awe for me. Since both my parents were into reading, it wasn’t long before I was baptized too. We moved house often which meant my hoard couldn’t move en masse every time. Besides, like every kid growing up in the eighties, it was a given that there were only as many books the parents would buy.
Desperate souls like me looked outward, borrowed from friends and to make the buck last longer, plan and buy in such a way that our collection never overlapped. Then there were the libraries, a piece of heaven. To this day libraries take me back to my childhood reminding me that there are good things in this world. They are like power banks where I can go and recharge myself.
I wasn’t born rich. I came from very humble beginnings. What u see of me today is a far cry from what I was back then.
I was born in the wild, not very far from this city. When I opened my eyes for the first time, I was amazed to see beauty all around me. I was surrounded by beautiful creatures, just like me. We enjoyed the sun, swayed in the breeze, danced in the rain and had fun all day long. Those still remain the best days of my life.
The COVID-19 pandemic has thrust us in a situation unlike any we have ever encountered in our lives, and that we fervently pray never to encounter again. What with social distancing, being cooped up in the house, restricted physical activity, the palpable stress of parents and caregivers, the kids have been affected like never before.
Hence, it is imperative that their minds are occupied and energies are channeled in a healthy and positive manner. This is precisely the reason why at BTB we have been using unconventional methodologies and holistic approach to build confidence in children and raise a more perceptive and artistic generation. To that end, we have programs for creative writing, building vocabulary and finding your unique voice to name a few.
The blazing sun was smiling in the sky. I was trying hard to get rid of my slumber. After washing my face with soapy water, I gulped down some ice water from the bottle in the refrigerator. Pathetically sitting in the couch, I didn’t know what to do. There was no option to go out due to the corona virus pandemic. Just then, an idea popped in my mind to makeover and renovate my abode.

“Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday dear Melissa…” A group of girls sang in the background as Jack rushed through the corridor. The abode. The only one in the entire area, sat on the crest of a low valley. In this two-storeyed duplex resided a couple – Rohan and Rhythm.
