The engines fired up,
The lights went out.
In the dark,
The protesters stood…
Small, but not silent.
They thought they could stop the monsters
That had just begun to growl.
The race might have paused,
But the crowd could not.
Metal thunder filled the air.
The cars shot forward,
Narrowly missing the protesters;
A breath away,
A heartbeat away.
And for a moment,
Noise was louder
Than fear.
