Five More Minutes

I opened my eyes.
found my brother mumbling to get up.
I jumped out of bed.

Then came
the monstrous thought of…

“Just five more minutes.”

I tried running to the bathroom
to get out of its grasp.
Right before it hit me,
I managed to get my face wet.

Now it was offended.

I ran, not from the monster,
but towards what it dreaded.

I was unfortunate enough
to find a phone along the way.

That was its strength.

I struggled to get out of its grasp
as I neared the phone.

The monster
had consumed me.

I lunged for the phone
but thankfully found it dead.

Soon, I detected that the monster had gone.

I had won
another day.
