Diversity and Representation in YA and Children’s Literature

We are a planet made up of a diverse group of people – and a diverse group of people imply a diverse set of problems. We are riddled with issues so eclectic in their nature, it’s almost impossible to find a uniform solution to all of them.

This is where I think literature comes into picture. We turn to books and poetry when we are most helpless. In times of adversity, we seek refuge in art – which is why it is so important to have proper and equal representation in all of art’s branches.

Will this plot turn out into a good story without any twist, conflict or an interesting element in it? Not really.

The River In The Sky

Markin gazed over the holy Mesytah, as it gleamed and shined in the moonlight. He wore a gold cloak and a gold hat, true to his reputation. God of Gold, as he was called by the humans who lived in their little clusters beneath the holy Mesytah. The Mesytah had been an illusion, a blockade, so the humans couldn’t see their place, gods as they were called. But there was a problem. The Mesytah originated from the Malkake, the huge lake in the middle of their kingdom. And the lake was drying up. If the Mesytah stopped flowing, it would only be a matter of time before the humans found out their secret kingdom.

How creative writing helped in my personal growth

Writing. It has been here since, well, forever and is perhaps one of the most underrated art forms in the world. Think about it. Your daily newspaper is written, books are written, your favourite songs have lyrics which are written, laws and rules are written. It is perhaps an art which governs the whole world.

The Cooking Competition

Cooking seems scary to me. The house could burn down, or you could use the wrong ingredients and end up killing yourself. It was my first time alone, cooking from a very unpopular recipe. It sounded tasty so I thought why not try it out!

The last ingredient had a very tongue twisting, unique name, that I had found at a shop tucked at the corner. The moment I added it, rainbow colored smoke started filling my bungalow.
