Nowhere to Run

The darkness closes in, enveloping my doubts,
splitting the voices inside me like threads.

Temporary relief
knowing it will soon return.

Opening the lid,
watching the colors swim before me.

Running, always running, with nowhere to run.

The sky — blue, small, and round,
a taste of a false promise.

Running and running from the demons inside me,
but always ending up with nowhere to run.

Beating, getting louder.
Darkness, getting darker.

Another few fly in
bitter to the tongue, sweet to the mind,
pushing the darkness back for a little longer.

But soon, with nowhere to run,
it bursts out of me
an explosion of fury and rage.

And underneath it all,
I am just someone
with nowhere to run.
