Book Review – More Unfairy Tales

“More Unfairy Tales” by Author T F Carthick is a collection of classic fairy stories re-written with a contemporary twist and a different perspective from their original versions. Five stories have been re-told in this book which make for an interesting and thought-provoking read.

Personally, I did not find the story based on ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ that exciting and I think it could have been better with some tweaking. However, the rest of the stories more than make up for this and entertained me thoroughly. My favourite was the one on ‘Beauty and the Beast’. I loved the take of the author and the way the female protagonist in the story has been interpreted by him. It gives a fresh and important message to the young readers especially.  The author’s take on Rapunzel was brilliant too, and I quite enjoyed reading this story.

I would like to give a special mention to Medha Gupta, the illustrator, who has done a great job of designing the cover so artistically. One look at it and you will want to read the book.

Overall, this book is amazing, unique and it should definitely be on everyone’s “must-read” list.
